Baglung: A new farming model has been introduced in Resh village, Kathekhola Rural Municipality-7, Baglung, to bring greenery back to barren fields. Locals Gum Bahadur Gharti and his wife Devi Gharti, along with Amar Bahadur Thapa, have started a contract-based plantation system, which has drawn significant attention for its success.
Affordable Contract Model for Landowners
With nearly 1,500 ropani of land lying barren, the group initiated a system where plantation is managed for Rs 3,266 per ropani. The team handles everything—from hiring farmers to supplying seeds—while landowners provide an advance payment.
Significant Earnings and Job Creation
The initiative has yielded impressive results. Last year in Ashar alone, the Gharti couple cultivated 189 ropani, earning Rs 617,400 and creating jobs for 10 individuals. Similarly, Thapa earned Rs 617,600 by planting 186 ropani, also employing 10 people.
Recognition and Future Support
Acknowledging their contribution, the ward office honored the innovators and announced a mini tiller as a reward to support irrigation. Ward Chairman Prem Lamichhane praised the concept, calling it exemplary and a solution that has reduced landowners’ hassles.
